JUNIOR DESIGNER

We're looking for a Junior Designer to join our dynamic, creative, and grOH-ing company.

grOH! Playrooms is a play-forward children’s interior design studio located in Washington, DC that serves families and businesses around the world with the goal of making play easier. Our team is highly capable, exceptionally talented, and detail-obsessed. We have our share of fun, too!


JUNIOR DESIGNER

The Junior Designer supports our Bespoke, full service team, working directly with the executive design team on dynamic, high-paced projects.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, an acute attention to detail, and a passion for supporting a larger team with design and project details. The right candidate will feel confident in working on high-stakes, rush projects and is ready to learn and thrive under the guidance and mentorship of an experienced design team.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with and support the executive design team, including the Director of Design and Creative Director

  • Source, collaborate, and ideate about client projects

  • Prepare installation details and documents for projects

  • Prioritize, communicate, and manage the logistics of multiple design projects

  • Participate in site visits, client meetings, and internal meetings with the design and creative directors

  • Support the coordination of on-site teams to meet project deadlines

  • Make data-driven decisions to improve performance

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate must:

  • Hold Bachelor’s Degree from a 4-year accredited university or Associate’s Degree with at least two years of professional experience post graduation

  • Have basic familiarity with construction and/or build practices and materials

  • Have experience in a detail-oriented environment and meeting important timelines and deadlines

  • Be a self-starter; take the lead on assigned tasks and initiative to solve problems creatively and thoroughly

  • Be a curious learner; ask detailed questions and tenaciously seek answers in order to move projects forward

  • Successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously; analyze details within the broader project goal, thereby prioritizing project elements

  • Possess excellent communication skills and be ready to contact and engage with vendors, general contractors and trades professionals, team members, and clients in person, via email, and by phone

  • Possess exceptional organizational and time management skills

  • Be excited about the opportunity to create beautiful, magical spaces for children and their families

  • Hold a valid US driver’s license; this position will require travel nearby and throughout the United States for jobsite visits, shop visits, and project installations.

  • Be able to travel within and outside of the greater Washington, DC area within the United States

  • Be available to start immediately and work full-time in person at our Washington, DC office; maintain standard work hours Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM.

  • Be highly proficient in G Suite (Google Docs/Sheets/Slides)

  • Be proficient in hand-sketching and/or Procreate

  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite, Canva, Sketch Up (or similar), or other design software a PLUS

  • Pass a background check

PROJECT MANAGER

The Project Manager supports our Bespoke, full service team in managing all project aspects, specifically project installations.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, an acute attention to detail, and a passion for bringing a team together to achieve a goal. The right candidate will feel confident in creatively solving problems swiftly and effectively and juggling the many moving parts of a project under tight deadlines.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support project installations for a team of designers

  • Communicate with and build effective trades teams for project installations

  • Prepare installation details and documents for projects

  • Prioritize, communicate, and manage the logistics of multiple design project installations

  • Participate in site visits, client meetings, and internal meetings with the design and creative directors

  • Ensure proper project documentation of installation

  • Coordinate teams to meet project deadlines

  • Make data-driven decisions to improve performance

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate must:

  • Be a self-starter; take the lead on assigned tasks and initiative to solve problems creatively and thoroughly

  • Be a curious learner; ask detailed questions and tenaciously seek answers in order to move projects forward

  • Successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously; analyze details within the broader project goal, thereby prioritizing project elements.

  • Possess excellent communication skills and be ready to contact and engage with vendors, general contractors and trades professionals, team members, and clients in person, via email, and by phone.
