Invitations to PLAY!

WHAT IS AN INVITATION TO PLAY?

An invitation to play is a grownup taking 3-5 minutes to arrange some intentional materials that kids can use in a very open-ended way to create play.

Your kiddo may or may not β€œaccept” the invitation, which is absolutely OK!

Invitations to play are great for poor weather days AND outside play days. Try setting up a building invitation on sand or grass...it's hard!

But what to use!

pom poms, popsicle sticks, chalk, feathers, sequins, pipe cleaners, markers, chunky colored pencils or crayons, LEGOs, animal figures, a tea set, paper clips, rubber bands, rice, dry pasta, cupcake liners, small paper cups, ice cube trays, measuring cups, salt, kinetic sand, play-doh, salt dough, toilet paper rolls, egg cartons, cardboard, paper, tape, glue, scissors, foam sheets, tissue paper, cotton balls, beads, twine, fabric swatches, buttons, seashells, marbles, toy cars or trains, bubble wrap, socks, toothpicks, colander, basket, washers, magnets, flowers, flower petals, leaves, canvas, takeout containers, envelopes, old technology parts, yarn, clothespins, googly eyes, really anything!

*not all of these ideas are going to suit all ages and stages
